'It's a great feeling to score a hat-trick for my country'

Hat-trick hero Aljame Zuill ruthlessly put St.Kitts and Nevis to the sword before declaring, "I've rediscovered my goalscoring touch".

The veteran striker made a surprise start and snatched his opportunity with both hands with a clinical display to inspire Bermuda to victory.

After recovering from a shot-shy start to the season, Zuill has been in lethal form for Devonshire Colts, bagging a brace in his last two league outings, and has vowed to cement a starting berth in Keith Tucker's World Cup plans.

"I started the season off slowly but I've picked up in recent weeks and I'm really glad my finishing touch is back on," said Zuill who had been playing with niggling injuries earlier on in the campaign.

"It's a great feeling to score a hat-trick for my country, especially here (the National Sports Centre) where it's not been done for quite a while - it felt real good.

"Thankfully I seem to have hit some good form at the right time for the national team and hopefully the coach will continue to pick me. I'm happy to play striker with John Barry Nusum, Stevie Astwood or whoever else. Everyone is fighting for their position and I'm no different - I just want to keep my jersey."

Zuill opened his account in the third minute, slotting home with a cool finish to give Bermuda a perfect start. He almost doubled his tally on 35 minutes when Sammy DeGraff helped Zuill's angled shot, destined for the net, on its way. But the 31-year-old did not have to wait long before his next serving, feasting on Kwame Steede's left-wing cross with another predatory strike.

A couple of half chances went begging but Zuill kept on finding himself in scoring positions and saved his best for last on 83 minutes, smashing a shot past the keeper from the edge of the area.

"We created a lot of chances, as we did on Friday, but this time it worked out for us," said Zuill. "I guess I could've scored a couple more and everybody is teasing me in the dressing room saying that Sammy (DeGraff) stole my goal. But that's fine - as long as the ball ends up in the net I'm not concerned. I'm a team player and I'm just thankful those guys created chances for me."

Coach Keith Tucker praised Zuill's "killer instinct" and said his early goal was crucial in settling the team's nerves.

"Aljame took his opportunities and that makes such a difference," he said. "If you put your opportunities away it has a massive knock-on effect for the rest of the team.

"He was calm under pressure and took his chances very well. When you do that you can beat practically anybody - he had a killer instinct.

"We watched our last game against St.Kitts together and there were encouraging aspects but we always seemed a few passes short. But today we really pushed the ball around and took our opportunities. I'm pleased for the players as this victory should give them a real boost."
