Jennings' double puts paid to Town

North Village 3 Diminutive midfielder Jameiko Jennings tore the heart out of Dandy Town as he struck twice to inspire visiting North Village to a comprehensive Coca Cola First Division victory at St.John's Field yesterday.

Jennings had put Village in the driver's seat by half-time, netting both goals to give his side a 2-0 lead. But the Red Devils were never allowed to sit on their advantage as Town remained competitive, refusing to play second fiddle to their opponents.

Jennings' first goal came against the run of play -- scored after 23 minutes from close range after Elliott Jennings created the opening.

Some 21 minutes later he struck again, this time putting the finishing touches to a cross from Damon Wade.

Town, bolstered by the introduction of Carlos Smith at the start of the second half, continued to match their opponents in every other aspect of the game and deservedly pulled a goal back after 63 minutes when Darron Simons sent the ball home after taking a pass from the hard-working Devarr Boyles.

Village's defence had a desperate look about it for a while, but before Town could do any further damage Village got a third goal which secured the victory.

Reviving memories of his father, Ralph (Gumbo) Bean stunned Town when he dribbled past two defenders, advanced 15 yards and finished with a crisp left-footed drive from an angle on the right that gave goalkeeper Antoine Lightbourne no chance.

Four minutes later Jameiko Jennings narrowly missed putting them 4-1 ahead when his sizzling shot from 20 yards was brilliantly tipped over by Lightbourne.

Town's misery increased during the last few minutes when they suffered two glaring misses, both Darron Simons and Carlos Smith putting shots wide or high of goal from just a few yards out.

The goal by Mills after 84 minutes, a brilliant solo effort that saw him race through the defence and chip the ball home from 16 yards, opened the way for two additional close calls by PHC, but Colts' defence held firm.

It was, however, all a case of too little late as Colts had stamped their authority on the game much earlier, thanks to goals by Keishon Lawrence and Tito Smith (2).

They led 2-0 at the half with Lawrence scoring after 31 minutes and Smith after 40 minutes.

Mark Ray provided Lawrence with the opening that allowed him to score while Lawrence then had a hand in the goal that enabled Smith to put Colts 2-0 up.

Colts' skipper Shannon Burgess denied PHC after 55 minutes when he headed away a ball destined for the back of the net. And Colts quickly recovered from that scare to increase their lead after 62 minutes with Smith taking advantage of a defensive blunder to score from close range.
