Junior tourney set to go

new tournament in memory of one of the Island's top coaches.

Youngsters from the under 10 age group up to under 18s will compete in the first annual Cromwell Manders Memorial Tournament from Thursday to Saturday next week at the Government Tennis Stadium.

Manders, who died in May 1990 at the age of 75, was described by Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association president David Lambert as a "very positive, knowledgeable coach''.

"He always encouraged juniors to stick around after lessons. And so many of the coaches on the Island took lessons from him.'' He added: "We've had a really good response and we're expecting a large turn-out. All the juniors are looking for extra competition and our aim is to give them more mid-term break tournaments.'' The draw for the first round is to be held next Tuesday.
