Keishon's the difference Colts

A goal by substitute Keishon Smith 10 minutes from time gave Devonshire Colts vicotory in this Friendship Trophy quarter-final at Somerset CC last night.

Midfielder Yul Wade provided the spadework that led to the clincher when he brilliantly worked his way down the right flank and crossed into the middle for the teenager to whip the ball home from close range -- Smith flooring Town after coming on for Leonard Hypolite after 62 minutes.

Until Smith settled it once and for all the game looked as though it would enter extra time. Dandy Town, who were never outplayed, looked capable of putting away their opponents after taking a 2-1 lead early in the second half.

But Colts, playing with extreme confidence for a young team, fought back and managed to seize the initiative late in the game.

Mark Ray, retrning to the line-up after an injury, put Colts ahead 1-0 after just four minutes when he scored from close range following a cross by right-back Keenan Burchall.

With a strong wind behind them on this cold night, Colts pushed powerfully forward but found it difficult to get within striking distance of goal and were consequently held to just one more chance during the half.

This came after 23 minutes when striker Ellington Weldon put a tame shot into the chest of goalkeeper Ricky Tucker.

Dandy Town were allowed to come into the game with momentum. Pernell Douglas hammered a shot just over after 12 minutes and they eventually got a deserved equaliser 15 minutes before the half when striker Dennis Robinson scored from a cross by Carlos Smith.

Town pinned down their opponents when play restarted with Wayne Campbell, Paul Cann, Walter Musson and Carlos Smith putting shots either wide or over the goal.

The inevitable go-ahead goal for Town came after 66 minutes when the hard-working Carlos Smith scored from a header following a Musson corner. But within two minutes Ray snatched his second goal to pull Colts level, putting the ball home from close range.

With the teams involved in an even battle, Colts eventually got the break they wanted when Wade created the opening for young Smith to snatch the winner.
