Losing battle for Bermuda

their matchup with a duo from the Dominican Republic in the Tennis Tournament of the Caribbean and the Americas in Martinique.

A disappointing day also saw them go down 2-1 to a strong team from Chile and thus fail to reach the knockout round.

Things were close in the encounter with the Dominican Republic, as Bradshaw won the first set before his opponent Roman Bernall regrouped to eventually triumph 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Karl Roberts seemed to have left his game at home and was brushed aside by Alexis Ubierra in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Competition in the doubles was extremely keen with the match swinging one way and then the other. Bernall and Ubiera sailed through the opening set to win 6-1, but the Bermudians reversed the order in the second, forcing a third and deciding set.

A tie-breaker ensued in with neither side surrendering an inch, however the local pair ran out of gas and eventually buckled under the pressure, losing the tie-break and the match by a final score of 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).

In the clash with Chile, both Roberts and Bradshaw were dispatched in rapid fashion by Patricio Delgado and Crisi Araya respectively.

Roberts was sent packing 6-0, 6-0 while Bradshaw managed to stay on the court a little longer in his 6-3, 6-2 defeat. The doubles was awarded to Bermuda after Chile decided not to risk injury having already qualified for the next round.
