Nusum under the spotlight

Furman College in North Carolina that Soccer American, the popular weekly magazine, has taken notice.

Nusum was recently featured in an interview in the magazine when a series of questions were put to him, ranging from his favourite team, best goal ever scored and players he admired growing up.

The striker, who plays locally for Wolves and has already broken into the Bermuda senior team, listed Juventus as his favourite team, and Juventus' Allessandro del Piero as his favourite player and the star he would most like to meet.

Nusum's noted his favourite other sport was basketball while his favourite other sports team were the San Francisco 49ers.

The five-foot, 11-inch, 195-lb Nusum, who goes by the nickname `Bear', lists former PHC pair Kyle Lightbourne and Mike Dill as his two favourite players when growing up.

When asked where he would rather play as a professional, the MLS or in Europe, Nusum choose the latter. "Soccer is their life over there. There are too many other sports to compete with over here (US),'' Nusum told the magazine.

He said in 10 years' time he saw himself playing in either the MLS or in Europe, starting a family and celebrating the 10th anniversary of a national championship. His favourite MLS team are the Columbus Crew.

The youngster listed an English Premier League game between Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace as the best event he had attended as a spectator.

In his first year at Furman, Nusum, a Health and Exercise Sciences major, scored 10 goals with 11 assists in 21 games. He improved on those figures during the 1999 season when he netted 16 goals and had 11 assists in 22 games.

Nusum said his best goal was a header he scored against South Carolina from about 13 yards out.

Soccer America is the only national soccer weekly in the United States.

Founded in 1971, it has a circulation of 125,000.
