Once again the Miller High Life league proved itself among the most competitive this week, with the championship going down to the final night.

After 87 games it all boiled down to the last three as defending champions Tools and Equipment battled would be kings Marlboro.

In the end Marlboro won the battle, but Equipment triumphed in the war, taking the title by a mere five points.

The first two games witnessed Marlboro rolling to a 16-2 advantage. However, Equipment, after a pep talk from their team leader, responded in the third with a 7-2 win which proved just enough for the overall prize.

Antoine Jones led the repeat champions with a 624 series, while Mike McCallum paced Marlboro with a 621.

Marlboro were tops in team series with 2,894 compared to 2,885 for Equipment, emphasising the closeness of the affair.

Stevedoring Service confirmed third place with a 25-5 thumping of Thompson's, as Casey Burgess saved the best for last with a season-best 278 game en route to a 669 series for Stevedoring.

Team-mates Oscar Andrade and Mike Lambe spurred Lite Ice to a convincing 191 -101 win over Team Electric.

In other action Terminators took a 26-4 result from a short-handed Team Metro as Colbert Pearman rolled a solid 622 series and 244 game, and New Mix Ups beat New Breed 18-12 in a low scoring affair.

SAILING SLG Despite near perfect conditions, just seven boats showed up to compete in Sunday's Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club (RHADC) race put on by Bermuda Offshore Cruising Association.

In 20-25 knot breezes from the south west the small fleet set off from the Flag Pole with Buddy Rego's Tsunami leading the charge.

Tsunami went on to lead the entire journey, being briefly challenged by Les Crane's Monterey taking advantage of a favourable shift while headed toward 102 buoy.

However, Tsunami was able to increase separation downwind and crossed the line some 10 minutes ahead of the competition.

In Class B which uses the Bermuda Helmsman Handicap (BHH) that adjusts PHRF ratings based on the previous season's results, Monterey came out ahead of Tsunami followed by Pedestrian (Bill Riker).

In Cruising class tops was David Roblin's Lullaby followed by Ardara (Paul Watson) and Sadiqui (Sheila Tasker).

RHADC has begun a series of Wednesday evening races which will use PHRF handicaps and involve competition in spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions.

The best five races will count. Interested sailors can register with RHADC any time prior to the start of a race.

For further information call RHADC or check in on Channel 68.

The Mumms weekend race takes place on May 3 and 4, with the first race setting off at noon from Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and finishing at Dockyard, while Sunday's race begins in the Great Sound at 10.00 a.m.
