Red Devils catch Wolves cold
seven minutes as North Village caught Wolves cold in this FA Cup clash.
Second Division Wolves were quickly shown to be out of their depth and trailed 4-0 at half-time.
They simply could not cope with North Village's skillful short-passing game.
Wingers Paul Simmons and Maceo Dill had a field day against a defence that was blown away in the wind at Bernard Park.
North Village had already wasted one good chance before Dill struck his first after five minutes -- and what a goal it was.
He played two quick one-twos out on the right to bamboozle mesmerised Wolves defenders.
Dill finished in lethal fashion by crashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from 12 yards. In sharp contrast, his next goal two minutes later was more a case of bad defending than good attacking.
After Maceo Dill crashed a shot against the post from a few yards out, a poor clearance gave it straight back to him.
Again he fired in a hard shot, but his second effort was blocked on the line.
Sean Dill could hardly believe his luck when another poor clearance came straight to him and he made no mistake from the edge of the six-yard box. This destroyed Wolves' confidence and they quickly wilted under the afternoon sun.
A few minutes later, tricky midfielder Clinton Caisey almost scored a third following a dazzling solo run down the left wing when he left two players for dead.
His shot beat 'keeper Andre Smith but it was scrambled off the line in a desperate defensive effort.
By now, the match was beginning to look like one of the biggest mismatches of the season.
North Village looked like scoring whenever they attacked and there was nothing the flat-footed Wolves defence could do to stop them.
But the home fans had to wait until just before half-time when North Village put the game beyond doubt with a two-goal burst.
Nobody had done more to wreak havoc than Village's two wingers, and they both got their just rewards by getting on the scoresheet.
First, Paul Simmons easily beat the 'keeper after a long ball on the right wing put him in the clear.
This was quickly followed by a close-range header from Maceo Dill following a pin-point cross from Kevin Grant.
Village turned off the power in the second half, although Sean Dill wasted plenty of chances to complete his hat-trick.
Wolves pulled a goal back after 60 minutes through Dion Wainwright, who headed home a corner. But it was too little, too late.
They followed up with a brief period of pressure but were unable to again pierce a North Village defence, which managed to play its way out of trouble whenever it needed to.
