Smith races clear in ten miler
comfortable victory in yesterday's 21st annual running of the Evian 10-miler.
With defending champion Jay Donawa out injured, Smith was rarely pushed although Tracy Wright kept the leader in his sights for most of the first half of the race.
Smith eventually came home in 54 minutes, 24 seconds with Wright following in 56.21. Third place went to the lone male overseas entrant, Ted Poulos, in 58.08.
American Poulos reportedly holds the world record for the most road races completed in a single year.
Among the women, there were no surprises with Anna Eatherley successfully defending her title in 64.15. Lynn Patchett placed second in 65.41 and Rosa Peichoto third in 69.06.
More than 100 runners completed the out and back course from the Lagoon property opposite the Botanical Gardens out to Tucker's Town and back.
Full results were not available yesterday but will appear in The Royal Gazette later this week.
