Soccer clinic opens Monday

annual Soccer Clinic and School of Excellence, sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda, starting next Monday.

The clinic is open to 200 soccer players (male and female) between the ages of six and 18. Older players (10-18) will be coached by the two professionals along with a team of local and international coaches from 9-11 a.m. each day, while the younger charges (six-10) will likewise come under their tutelage from 6-8 p.m. All activities will be at the National Sports Centre.

"We are grateful to the Bank of Bermuda for their generous support,'' said Goater. "The soccer clinic gives young Bermudians the opportunity to build on their soccer skills, and have fun during the summer months.'' Meanwhile, 10 players aged 12-18, who show leadership, promise and good team skills during the clinic, will be selected to participate in the School of Excellence, a further two-week long session. There participants will be required to attend school classes in the morning, work in the afternoon, and soccer training during the early evening.

"We have designed the School of Excellence to give soccer players a balance in sports, education and the work place,'' said Bascome, a midfielder with the Harrisburg Heat of the NPSL. "Players will be monitored closely. If they are late for training, work or school without a proper excuse more than twice, they will be dismissed from the programme.''
