the delay in the opening of the various middle and primary schools, Government and the Bermuda Football Association have organised a Sports Academy and Youth Camp for students aged 9-14.
"We think it will be a wonderful gesture for us as an association to be able to provide football pleasures to Bermuda's youth and at the same time hope that we are doing something on behalf of the community and the education system on the whole,'' said BFA general secretary David Sabir.
The camp will be staged at the National Stadium starting today and continuing through to Friday, from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. each day.
Technical director Clyde Best will act as the supervisor for the soccer activity and all of their staff coaches will be in attendance.
"The camp is entirely free and we are asking all children to bring adequate lunch supplies which will last them through the day,'' said Sabir.
The Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association and soft drink bottlers John Barritt and Son Ltd. are also helping out.
The cricket clinics will be organised and conducted by acting national cricket coach Allan Douglas and the tennis will be organised by BLTA president and coach David Lambert. Barritt's are providing refreshments.
"Participants will receive specialised and individualised coaching through the use of the latest coaching methods and technology,'' the Ministry of Education said in a statement released late Friday.
The Sports Academy is limited to students from Sandys Secondary Middle School, Spice Valley Middle School, Dellwood Middle School, Whitney Institute Middle School, West Pembroke Primary School and Northlands Primary School. The maximum number of participants is 250, the statement said.
