Sunday, the third in the Fall Series, with a total of 18 boats taking part.

A light east-northeasterly breeze freshened slightly to around eight knots as the race progressed over a 211 mile route from the Great Sound to a mark off Pearl Island, south to Grace Buoy, down Dundonald Channel, along North Shore to Shelly Bay and back.

The light, fluky winds in Hamilton Harbour made for an interesting downwind start with boats close to the northern shoreline suffering from a lack of wind and the rest of the fleet sustaining enough breeze to pull away.

After dropping to the rear, Tsunami , sailed by Peter Bromby, gybed across to the other side of the harbour and slowly regained position with the leaders.

Paul Hubbard, aboard Tonka , made a good start and despite having to re-round Grace Buoy after being pushed to the wrong side during a confrontation with Tsunami , managed to stay close enough to the larger boats to win on corrected time. Peter Shrubb and Wildcat were second, followed by Tsunami .

In the cruising class KO2 took corrected time honours followed by Lullaby and Free Falling .

HOCKEY HOC The race for the Bermuda Ladies Hockey League A Division tightened over the weekend as leaders Cardinals slumped to their first defeat of the season.

Cardinals were shocked 2-1 by a surprisingly dominant Canaries outfit that attacked from the outset and controlled much of the first half, producing several good opportunities.

Just as it appeared the two would enter the interval deadlocked, Cardinals broke away with Susannah Almeida applying the finishing touches to a move started by Gina Evans.

However, the lead was short-lived as Rhonda Rawlins first converted a penalty stroke before Jacqui White notched the winner six minutes later.

The result allowed Longtails to move level on points, but they trail because of an inferior goal difference and have played a game more than Cardinals.

Longtails drew 2-2 with cellar dwellers Orioles, with Joanne Wilson netting twice for Longtails against one each by Orioles' Jeanne Farnell and Lisa Ray.

In B Division action Canaries continued to run away at the top, making second placed Cardinals their latest victims in a 3-1 victory on Saturday. They were 1-0 victors over Bluebirds the following day.

Canaries remain unbeaten in eight matches with six wins and two draws for a total of 14 points, seven more than their closest rivals.

The weekend's other B game saw Orioles and Swifts finish scoreless.
