Swan double keeps PHC in running

Sammy Swan led PHC on a second-half super show to rock Dandy Town in this see-sawing First Division clash.

The striker smashed two goals as Zebras twice came from behind to grab a well-earned draw.

It was a sterling performance as PHC had to recharge themselves after an own goal by defender Mark Wade.

But the home side played a big part in their own downfall at St. John's field yesterday.

For much of the second half they appeared to be sleepwalking.

Only briefly after Swan scored his first goal, did the Hornets burst into life.

And it paid off, with Paul Cann hitting back immediately.

It was a baffling overall performance by Town.

In the first 45 minutes Town turned on the heat, giving no sign of sitting back.

Cann and Carlos Smith tormented the PHC defence, carving out plenty of chances.

The slippery conditions seemed to affect PHC more.

And it was against the run of play when Dana Rawlins fired PHC into the lead with a superb 15-yard strike in the 21st minute.

The ball curled to the right and beyond the outstretched fingertips of Ricky Tucker.

Town, however, immediately sprang back, and Carlos Smith levelled matters with a wonderful goal.

The front man scampered down the right, leaving PHC's defence for dead.

He then moved to the centre and slotted the ball to the right of Carlyle Crockwell.

In the 34th minute, Town finally got their noses in front, thanks to a misdirected header from Mark Wade.

The PHC defender appeared to be aiming for a corner when he connected with Walter Musson's cross.

The second half began uneventfully, and badly needed a goal to revive the match.

Swan duly provided in the 70th minute, shortly after Shawn Simons was brought on to replace Frank Ming.

He drove the ball past Tucker from a short way out, but Town immediately struck back.

Crockwell will be disappointed with himself after he mishandled a low drive across goal by Musson.

The ball bobbled from his grip, and Cann stabbed it into the net.

Swan's 80th-minute goal from a free kick was just reward, although Tucker must take some blame.
