Sandys Boat Club rugby tournament at Malabar Field tomorrow.

But the Reds, who have dominated this tournament for the past two years, are revealing little of their game plan for the competition.

"You can expect to see us dominate and take the trophy again,'' new skipper Andre Simons said.

"We are going to work on stuff for the season and use the tournament as a training session.

"There are a few things that we have been working on in training which we will try to apply in game situations.

"The good thing about this tournament is that you play a game and then you can sit down and talk about what happened and discuss what worked and what didn't work.'' Simons said that both Steve Prime and Dave Beau, who are new to the team, are expected to play their fist game in a red and black jersey on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mariners' captain Keith Beattie said he is not worried about which team wins the silverware tomorrow.

Instead he said he will use the games as an opportunity to try different players in various positions so that he can see how they perform.

"We're not looking at the tournament as a rehearsal for our first team,'' Beattie said. "Our key players will be moving around and they will play any position that is necessary.

"This tournament is more important for the new players to the club. We probably have about 10 to 15 new players and some of them have never played rugby before.

"We are just looking for a good and enjoyable afternoon.'' It is anyone's guess whether Beattie will manage to fulfil this promise because Mariners are scheduled to face Police in the first game.

Judging from the rivalry that exists between the two clubs, that clash is expected to add heat to the already simmering competitive flames.

And no one knows that better than Calum Welsh who leads the Blues for the first time since Sean Field stepped down after two seasons at the helm.

Danny Cozens, Alan Gorbutt and Richard Cubbin will miss the tomorrow's tournament but Welsh said although they would be a big miss, his focus would be on the players he will actually have.

"We play Mariners first,'' Welsh said. "I actually enjoy playing against them. Potentially they have got a good side with some strong running backs.

"They will be looking to use people like Keith Beattie to come through the centre so we expect a good game against them.'' Renegades skipper Mike Gorrie said the number of new players in the league this year bode well for the game because it would increase the level of competition.

"It would be nice to win the cup but we are trying out a lot of new players so we will try them out and see how they go. It could backfire on us but we are not out to win at all costs.

"This tournament is an opportunity to get the team together. Give everyone a game and see where it goes from there.''
