Teachers get golf lesson
golf on Monday as part of a drive to put the game into Bermuda's public school system.
The second of three workshops will help teachers implement the junior golf programme into five middle schools and two high schools.
The cost of the three workshops, plus equipment for the seven schools, will be around $30 per student, paid for by donations from the Bermuda Golf Foundation, XL and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew's.
The iniative is a joint venture between the Department of Education and the Foundation, a chartitable trust run to financially assist the development of golf.
To "develop boys and girls through junior golf education'' is the aim of the National Association of Golf Educators, whose co-founder Bill Madonna ran the first workshop last September.
NAGCE programmes are up and running in six countries with 30,000 juniors involved.
The introduction of the NAGCE programme is part of an ongoing shift in physical education away from the teaching of only traditional sports and towards a wider-ranging PE curriculum.
