They had made their way to the semis thanks to a 6-3 victory over the Rattcocks, but were trailing 4-2 against former champions Norm's Storms when Caines came to the rescue.

Caines needed to win all three games after their opponents had opened up a 4-2 lead with victories from Lynn Furtado and Tim Counsell over Rough Riders' Justin Robinson and Stephen Smith.

Caines led 14-10 in the first game before Furtado crept back to 14-14 and needing just a point to clinch the match.

But the youngster executed the most outrageous forehand cross-court kill on Furtado's serve to keep his team in the contest.

Stunned, Furtado lost the second game 15-7 to make the overall score 4-4. The decider was a see-saw affair but Caines finally emerged a 15-13 winner.

In the other semi-final, The MGs edged the TTT Telebermuda team from the championship with a 5-4 victory. Tim Grice gave the MGs an early 2-1 lead with a 15-13, 12-15, 15-10 win over Chris Thornton. Naz Jetha levelled for TTT with a 15-12, 15-14, 8-15 defeat of Liz Martin.

In the third string match, Eva Grice put the MGs back in front with a 15-11 game against Dave Andrews, Andrews hit back 15-9 in the second game before Grice stole the final game 15-8 and with it the tie.
