Thomas shoots 70 for win

yesterday's Ladies Professional Tournament at Port Royal with a splendid one-under par round of 70.

Thomas, who is competing in the inaugural Bermuda Ladies Pro-Am, which ends tomorrow, won by a comfortable margin among the seven pros.

She finished eight strokes ahead of another visitor, Terri Migliaccio, on 78 while Troy Beck was third on 81, two strokes better than local pro Judith Ann Astwood, who shot an 83, along with Tricia Gates.

Thomas began her winning round with a birdie on the first hole which was followed by pars on holes two through eight before closing out the front nine with another par.

Thomas three-putted 11 and 12 for bogeys before shooting birdie on number 14.

She completed the round with pars on the remaining holes.

"It was very enjoyable, it was one of those days when things went right,'' said Thomas last night.

"I made a lot of putts and hit the ball real well. I like the course, it sets up very well for me, it's a lot of placement. Some days the putts go in and some days they don't, but today they went in.'' The other finishers among the pros were Joy Bonhurt and Kim Oviatt. Twenty-one amateurs also competed.
