Tigers and Wasps take youth rugby awards

The local youth rugby season came to a close on Sunday with the final games of the campaign being played, league results announced and awards presented.

The five-month season saw over 200 children, aged five to 14, involved each week.

In the Under-10s, the Wasps won the league with the Bulls coming second.

In the Under-12s, the Tigers came out on top while the Sharks finished runner-up.

Under-12 head coach, Andy Price, said he was extremely impressed with the standard of Bermuda's young players.

"What impressed me the most was the enormous progress that was made this year by players who have only been playing for a season or two and are now playing at an excellent standard," said Price.

"If they stick with it, the future for Bermuda rugby is extremely bright".

The final day of the season also saw the announcement of the Alan Oliver Memorial Awards, which are handed out each year to players in the mini-rugby programme in memory of the former Bermuda national team player who died two years ago.

Recipients of the award this year were Jacob Worsfold, Alex Price, Graham Cooke and William Lorimer Turner.

The award recognises a combination of playing ability and attitude.
