Vallis and Marshall vie for place in final

Invitation matchplay tournament following yesterday's championship flight quarter-finals.

Locals Robert Vallis and Blake Marshall will square off in one of today's semi-finals while the other will be contested by defending champion Doug Clark of North Carolina and Will Fuller of Maryland.

Vallis moved a step closer to the title yesterday with a convincing victory over David Ezekiel -- but extraordinarily neither Vallis, Ezekiel, club professional Keith Pearman nor club secretary Anne Walsh would reveal the score.

Official results faxed to The Royal Gazette omitted the margin of victory, and when contacted later Ezekiel said an agreement had been struck between the two players not to divulge it.

"The result posted is that Robert won, and that's all,'' said Ezekiel. "I was well beaten. But we agreed not to post the score.'' Meanwhile, Marshall gets his chance against Vallis today following a two and one victory over Quebec's Dalton Barnoff.

Clark eased by Bermuda's Mal Gosling three and one and Fuller ousted another local, Ricky Cox four and two.

In today's Senior Championship flight final, Jack Wahl will meet long-time visitor Dick Stimets of Maryland.

Wahl survived an epic battle with Tom Stearns, finally eliminating his opponent at the 20th hole while Stimets also faced stiff resistance from Howard DeSilva, eventually winning one-up.
