Youngsters get cup match ball rolling
Somerset made short work of rivals St. George's in retaining the cup with an eight wicket victory in the Second Annual Mini Cup Match held at Devonshire Rec. yesterday.
St. Georges's batted first and managed 93 for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Opening bat Ricardo Brangman was in sparkling form as he struck an entertaining 51 before being caught at the square leg boundary going for a big hit.
His was to be the only success enjoyed by the east enders as Somerset went about completing their task in splendid fashion. Skipper Kevin Tucker batted well to remain unbeaten at the end on 40, while number four bat Allan Tucker treated bowlers with disdain notching 24 runs in better than even time as Somerset required just 15 overs to reach the winning target of 94.
"The atmosphere felt better than Cup Match,'' said Somerset coach Peter Lee.
"With the spectators singing and cheering us on it was a real thing down there.'' Tucker and Brangman capped off a fine day by being named Most Valuable Players for their respective teams.
