7-Up Netts moved to within a point of reclaiming the Saturday League title from defending champions AICO as they sprinted past bottom club North Village

Carolyn Binns continued her torrid scoring pace, pouring in 48 points, while shooting partner Kim Minors accounted for 16 as the game was literally over by half-time.

Meanwhile, AICO stayed mathematically alive in the race for first, but need to defeat the leaders in their make-up match by a sizeable margin and then have 7-Up Netts falter in their final league outing.

The second-placed club eased by Olympic Panthers 50-21 in their Saturday encounter, led by Debbie DeShields' 44 goals and six from Carol Ann Wade.

Panthers' replies were few and far between as Nyland Adams registered 11 and Dawn Symonds 10 goals.

Remaining matches involved teams with no such title aspirations.

However, none were more exciting than the Cardinals versus Hamilton Parish match-up, which see-sawed throughout before the former ended as 48-38 victors.

Parish led at the half 21-18, but Cardinals showed their mettle in coming on strong late in the contest to claim maximum points.

Alex Dowling was top of the shots for Parish with 28 goals while Wenda Godfrey tallied 29 for the winners.

PCC hammered Warwick Redbirds 43-22 in the final match of the day.

7-Up Netts confirmed their status as the best among the Sunday League bunch, claiming the championship in style through a 55-13 rout of Running Rebels.

There was one major surprise, however, at the low end as Cooper and Lines recorded their first win of the season, a 21-16 triumph over down-spiralling Boulevard.

Olympic Panthers assured themselves of the runners-up spot edging Netts 26-25 while, in the lone other fixture, PCC downed AICO 15-13.

BOWLING BOW Wahoo and Marlins continued their battle for the top spot as both teams collected maximum points from their matches as did fellow title aspirants Porgies.

Larry Lombardo led Marlins to victory over Sharks with the season's top game of 251 and the night's second high series of 581 while Hank Corrado supported with a 240 game.

Meanwhile, Wahoo were led on the way to victory over Barracuda by David Mello's top series of 599 to offset John Maycock's 549 for the losers.

The man in charge for Porgies was Vernon Daniels as he tied Maycock's 549 series, allowing for a quick swim past Angel Fish.

In other matches, Tuna bested Cow Pollies 4-0, Snappers downed Mackerel 3-1, Hinds were 3-1 winners over Dolphins and Rockfish blasted Piranhas 3-1.

Two records were broken in what was described as a highly successful Bermuda Women's Bowling Association Championships.

The team of Maria Seaman and Helena Rawlins revamped the record books with a 1,379 doubles total in Division One action to claim the top spot ahead of Donna Amaral and Marguerite Bean (1,322). Third were Winnette Lottimore and Michelle Simons (1,309).

Rawlins was involved again later as she shattered the handicap total, registering 2,010 to take the all events title in Division One over Jennifer Pitt (1,970) and Debbie Glasgow (1,913).

In Division Two, Brenda Simons and Angela Stovell were the cream of the crop, bowling a 1,296 to place a mere one pin ahead of Wendy Smith and Joanne Fubler with Doreen Smith and Brenda Williams third.

Checking other categories, Glasgow's 679 was enough to capture the singles championship in Division One; Wendy Smith topped all events in Division Two with 1,881; Pat Price's 1,738 garnered her the scratch title in Division One.

The prize presentation will be held April 10.

Kingfishers also suffered from a lack of manpower and Bishops gladly took advantage of the fact.
