A look at some of the professional cyclists and their teams who will be in action in the Conyers, Dill and Pearman Grand Prix next week:

NAVIGATORS A team which grew from humble beginnings, as the New Jersey amateur squad in 1994, to become the premier pro team it is today. Well known to Bermudians as Elliot Hubbard's team. Last year, the team won 65 races. Managed by Raymond Cipollini.

BART BOWEN (USA) Age: 32 Lives: Albuquerque, New Mexico Height: 5ft 8in Weight: 142 lb Turned pro: 1992 Strengths: Climbing, time trials MICHAEL BARRY (Canada) Age: 23 Lives: Boulder, Colorado Height: 6ft 3in Weight: 155 lb Turned pro: 1994 Strengths: Climbing, stage racing ROBBIE VENTURA (USA) Age: 28 Lives: Gurnee, Illinois Height: 5ft 10in Weight: 165 lb Turned pro: 1994 Strengths: Criterium, one-day races CHRIS WHERREY (USA) Age: 26 Lives: Boulder, Colorado Height: 6ft 2in Weight: 165 lb Turned pro: 1992 Strengths: All-round TEAM SHAKLEE The longest-running corporate-sponsored elite racing team in the US, Team Shaklee will be contesting the Bermuda Grand Prix for the third year in a row.

In 1998, team members won gold medals at both the Commonwealth and Goodwill Games.

JAMES CARNEY (USA) A gold medallist at the Goodwill Games last year, Carney is one of the versatile cyclists in the US. He excels in the match sprint over 1,000 metres.

GRAEME MILLER (New Zealand) Miller has 34 New Zealand national titles to his name and has won the Tour of New Zealand. A two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

JOHN LIESWYN (USA) An aggressive `go-from-the-gun' style makes Lieswyn a threat in both short-course criteriums and road races. He has won more than 50 races.

JONAS CARNEY (USA) Carney is a sprinting ace who has shown his speed in nearly every major criterium. He has earned over 400 career wins.

LINDA McCARTNEY TEAM The team sponsored by Linda McCartney Vegetarian Foods set its long-term aim as becoming the first British-based team ever to win the yellow jersey in the Tour de France. The whole squad are vegetarians.

MATT ILLINGWORTH (UK) An excellent time trialist and world-class track pursuiter, 31-year-old Illingworth is also very experienced on the road and is a good lead-out man for the team's sprinters.

CHRIS WALKER (UK) The 34-year-old from Sheffield is a former winner of the British Milk Race and winner of the British National Criterium Championships last year.

CHRIS LILLYWHITE (UK) Another former winner of the Milk Race, the 33-year-old is a former national criterium champion and two-time winner of the King of the Mountains Classic in Ireland.

SEAN YATES (UK) Team manager who may ride in the Grand Prix. A legend in UK racing who has stage wins in the Tour de France and the Tour of Spain to his name. He also won the British national championship road race in 1994.

ROB REYNOLDS-JONES (UK) The 27-year-old Yorksireman is a renowned climber and finished third in the 1998 Tour of Rhodes last year.
