After the first round of the Miller High Life League, Tools and Equipment have opened a 50 point lead over second-placed Marlboro.

Tools and Equipment last Thursday posted an easy 26-4 win over then second place Thompsons. Dean Lightbourn carried the leaders with his top game and high series, rolling a 245 and 670 respectively. Teammate Antoine Jones followed that with the second high game and series of 244 and 638 and Steven Ray threw in a 600 series and third high game of 237.

Their efforts propelled the leaders to the top team game and series of 1057 and 2953. For the losers it was Vernon Daniels with the top score.

Marlboro moved into second place by virtue of their 28-2 clubbing of Team Metro. Only the fine efforts of Clyde Burgess, who managed both points with his third high series of 631, was able to offer any resistance. Marlboro posted the second high team game and series of 1038 and 2936 with a consistent team effort led by Leon Smith.

The top four for Marlboro rolled within 10 pins of each other. Team Metro did manage to roll the third high team game of 961.

Terminators got back on the winning track with a 191 -101 triumph over Team Electric who continue their slide after an impressive start as the new team in the league. Reggie Harvey led the winners with a solid performance led by a 609 series with Robert Flood a close second.

Stevedoring Services crushed Lite Ice with the losers continuing to have trouble finishing their winning form of a year ago. Woody Jones, who only barely missed the honours list, led them with a 610 series.

The battle at the bottom of the tables saw New Breed beat New Mix Ups 16-14 in what turned out to be the most competitive game of the night. But even with the win New Breed were unable to climb out of the cellar. Tonight's games: Tool and Equipment v Team Metro, Stevedoring Services v Thompsons, Marlboro v New Mix Ups, Lite Ice v Terminators and New Breed v Team Electric.

SOCCER SOC Bermudians Jahma Charles and Dennis Zuill scored for Thomas College as they beat top-seeded University of Maine at Farmington 2-1 to capture the Maine Athletic Conference Championship recently in Maine.

Thomas took the lead in the 16th minute when Charles scored with a hard shot from outside the penalty area which went through the hands of the UMF goalkeeper.

Zuill also scored through the 'keeper's hands in the 43rd minute, direct from a corner to make it 2-1. UMF finally pulled a goal back in the 79th minute.

The win improved Thomas' record to 11 wins and eight losses and they were awaiting their seeding in the Northeast Regionals.

Charles also scored in the 5-0 win over the University of New England two days earlier to advance to the final of the MAC Tournament. the Terriers were the third seeds in the tournament.

Paget Community Football Club will hold a special meeting for all players this evening at 7.30 at the Paget Primary School field.
