Americans blast Bermuda in under-17 opener
Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago suffered an early jolt on Sunday when they were routed 5-0 by the United States on the opening day.
Bermuda, in a group of four which also includes Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, now have to bounce back with wins in their next two matches to have any chance of advancing to the next round, which will involve the three group winners and the best second-place team.
Today Bermuda take on Costa Rica in their second match before completing their group matches against Dominican Rupublic on Thursday.
Other opening day results on Sunday saw Canada defeat El Salvador 2-0, host nation Trinidad and Tobago hammer the Netherlands Antilles 5-0, Mexico beat Honduras 3-0, Costa Rica defeat the Dominicans 2-1 and Guatemala topple Martinique 3-0.
Today sees Mexico meeting Martinique; Guatemala playing Honduras; Canada taking on the Netherlands Antilles; the United States going against the Dominican Republic; and Trinidad and Tobago clashing with El Salvador.
The top three teams in the competition qualify for the 1997 Youth World Cup in Egypt.
The four teams advancing later this week will play another round of matches with the top three in the final standings booking places for Egypt.
