Anderson strikes as Raiders shock Hood
league leaders Robin Hood 2-1 in Commercial Division `A' action at Somerset Cricket Club.
After falling behind to a Dennis DeRosa strike moments before the interval, Raiders struck immediately following the break through Keith Bell.
Former top-flight performer Brian (Bulla) Anderson stepped up to seal all three points with an 87th-minute winner. It was just the second loss of the season for Hood in league play, who have three matches remaining.
Second-placed North Village Rams likewise suffered defeat, at the hands of unpredictable Lobster Pot by a 5-2 margin, this after the two stood 2-2 midway through the second half.
Troy Berkeley ravaged the Rams defence, scorching a hat-trick, including what turned out to be the winner, while team-mates Tom Hennessy and Saleem Mukudem each scored once.
Kenny Thompson and Stevie Dickinson each tallied a goal for Rams.
Taking advantage of such misfortune on the part of the leaders were MR Onions, their 6-0 bashing of Devonshire Colts All-Stars allowing them to move into second place via goal difference over Rams and nine points behind Hood, but with two games in hand.
Andy Robinson netted a hat-trick, and was assisted by single strikes from Glenn Dunne, Gary Garnett and Gary Wilson.
BAA Wanderers inched a bit closer as well, courtesy of a 4-0 triumph over Fire Service, Dave Lawler finding the back of the net three times and Thomas Gribbin once.
The lone remaining encounter saw Tuff Dogs beat Vasco Mariners 5-2, with Carlos Lopes netting twice on either side of the interval, while Kevin Mooney, Joe Carolo and Mark DeCouto each found the range on single occasions.
Joe Barroso and Joe Barbosa tallied for Vasco Mariners.
`B' Division leaders Key West Rangers made it 13 wins on the trot, but it was no walk in the park against Somerset Extros.
Rangers went up a goal through Sergio Griffin a minute into the match, and it seemed as if they were cruising when Vernal Cann added a second three minutes following half-time.
However, Extros stormed back to level through Everette Wellman and Ronue Cann but Griffin popped up to notch his second moments from time to ultimately floor Extros.
With Key West virtually assured one of the two promotion spots the battle remains for the second, and neither second-placed St. George's nor fourth-placed Exiles did themselves any favours.
The east enders crashed 3-0 to Wolves Pack at Shelly Bay, with Paul Douglas, Cecil Hendrickson and Casey Burgess putting the nails in the coffin.
Meanwhile, Exiles were held 2-2 by Dockyard Falcons, with Shannon Burchall and Treadwell Walker scoring for Exiles and Anthony Burchall and Lee Correia replying for Falcons.
The other match played saw Valley dismiss Bermuda Pest Control 3-1 with scores from Roger Hall (two) and Kevin McNeil. S.Crockwell scored for Pest Control.
Prison Officers won by default when Devonshire Lions failed to field a team.
