Barbados when the first full track and field meet of the season was held over the weekend.

And of those, five turned in personal bests.

Young middle distance runner Henry Talbot led the way as he qualified in both the 800 metres and 1500 metres, improving on his previous best times in both events.

Talbot clocked two minutes 2.2 seconds in the 800, an amazing 14 seconds faster than his previous best effort. Then in the 1500 he completed the four laps in four minutes, 20.7 seconds, more than 21 seconds inside his PB. He will now be competing in CARIFTA for the first time.

Richard Walcott also booked his CARIFTA ticket in the 800 with a time of 1:57.6, five seconds faster than his best last year.

Shar-Dae Whitter qualified with an 800m time of 2:28.3 and then clocked a PB in the 1500 of 5:05.3, 21 seconds inside her fastest time last year.

In field events, three shot putters all made their mark.

Brittney Marshall heaved the shot 11.23 metres, Crystal Hayward improved her best to 9.75 and Michelle Trott also registered a best of 10.19.

Zindzi Swan rounded off the early qualifiers with a high jump of 1.67 metres, which was also a personal best.

All the qualifiers, apart from Walcott (under-20), will be competing in the under-17 division when the Games begin on April 14.

Gabriel Wilkinson, currently studying at Alabama A&M University, has also qualified for this year's Games in the shot. He, too, recently recorded a personal best of 13.63 metres.
