BASKETBALL
Trout Twisters and Dream Team earned the right to contest the final of the Bermuda Basketball Association Winter League with contrasting wins on Wednesday.
Twisters, who had the best record during the regular season, continued their torrid pace in their play-off semifinal against Bank of Bermuda, surging to an emphatic 70-44 triumph.
While the first half was close -- the halftime score read 37-32 -- Twisters exploded following the break with Michael O'Reilly pouring in 24 points. Simon Onabolwe registered 22, but in a losing cause for the bank.
Meanwhile, Dream Team went down to the wire against Young Guns before winning 60-55 as the latter's Kevin Stovell put on a one-man-show to keep his side close.
Stovell, who recently performed in tryouts with several Continental Basketball Association franchises, ended with 26 points. However, Harold Davidson led a more team oriented attack that prevailed in the final analysis.
Tomorrow will witness the championship game at 7.30 p.m. at BAA Gym, preceded by a women's match at 6.30 p.m.
SOFTBALL SOF Latest action in the Commercial Softball League saw three lopsided results at Bernard Park on Wednesday.
The opening contest had team Xerox surge to a 13-1 victory over Gateway Herd led by the booming bats of Darryl Watson and Clovis Knights who both went two-for-three.
Watson was similarly stellar when on the mound as he scattered just three hits in notching the win.
Cock and Feather rode Dave Beagle's perfect four-for-four night to a 14-7 triumph over St. David's as Mike Jenkins supported with three-for-four and Jeanette Lawton two-for-four. Myron Brangman and Alvyn Pitcher both went two-for-three for St. David's. Dennis Pamplin was the winning pitcher and and Ianthia Butler the loser.
The other match had ACT torch AICO 23-9 as Richard Davidge went four-for-five with two home runs.
GOLF GLF Defending champions Nick Mansell and top seed Andrew Bissell both lost out in their bids for the Belmont Golf Club Championship as they were upset in the semifinals.
Steven Perry ousted Mansell two and one while Allen Martin Jr., defeated Bissell three and two.
Others earning their way to Sunday's finals were Sam Murray and Sam Bezant in the first flight, David Lindo and Edward Hayward in the second flight and Geoff McGuinness and William DeSilva Sr., in the third flight.
