Berkeley defends titles

Secondary Schools Boys' cross-country championships at the National Stadium yesterday, while a strong squad from Saltus narrowly edged Warwick Academy in the junior division for team honours.

The most impressive team performance was witnessed in the senior division where the Berkeley squad placed six of their eight runners in the first eight positions -- first, second, third, fifth, seventh and eighth.

In the intermediate (under 15) division Berkeley were equally as impressive as they placed five of their runners in the first 15 with finishes of first, second, eighth, 14th and 15th.

The junior (under 13) division was more closely contested. Despite Damon Mallory's first place finish for Warwick Academy, the team from Saltus narrowly edged Warwick Academy out for overall team honours.

The under 15 individual winner was Damon Ming, while in the over 15 division Michael Donawa was over a minute in front of the second place runner, completing the course in 17:25 while team-mate Sharif Taylor was second in 18:37. Another Berkeleyite, Khyann Dill, was third in 18:51.

Tomorrow the primary schools cross-country takes place starting at 1 p.m. All races will start and finish at the National Stadium. The under 13s will run approximately two miles, the under 15 two-and-half miles and the over 15 three miles.
