Bermuda finish on a losing note at IYT past
Bermuda returned to their losing ways at the International Youth Tournament when they tumbled to a fifth and final defeat in Denmark, this one coming at the hands of previously winless Canada.
Bermuda were unable to build on an impressive 20-run victory against hosts Denmark on Saturday, instead slumping against a side regarded as the weakest in the competition, thus falling back into the cellar.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Bermuda saw both Ryan Steede and skipper Janeiro Tucker enjoy good outings wielding the bat. The former just missed notching a half-century, falling for 47, while Tucker, who registered 72 against the Danes, continued in a good vein with 35.
Despite the heroics of the aforementioned duo, 131 was all Bermuda could muster as the introduction of M.Bajwa to the attack proved their ultimate undoing.
Bajwa was virtually unplayable to the Bermuda bats as he charged through the order, notching a hat-trick on his way to claiming remarkable figures of five for 15.
Assisting Bajwa was B.Seebaram who tallied two for 17 to set up an intriguing final period of play, where the pair would again play major roles.
Canada appeared determined as they went in search of the target set ... the thought of garnering their first victory serving as optimal motivation.
Seebaram laid the groundwork in staking his way to 46 and S.Turner's 22 also played a significant part in the result.
Once they were parted it was left to C.Franks (14 not out) and Bajwa (13 not out) to perform mop-up duties, allowing the North American nation the opportunity to raise arms in triumph.
Tucker claimed two for 29 while Dean Stevens returned figures of two for nine.
Zimbabwe celebrated their first IYT championship after defeating England by 18 runs at Nykobing Mors Cricket Ground in a highly-anticipated showdown of giants.
The southern African nation completed a perfect run in the tournament, where they were competing for the first time, as they batted first registering 173 for eight, before dismissing England for 155.
Host nation Denmark massacred Holland in the day's remaining match as they plundered the Dutch bowlers for 226 runs and then skittled them out for a mere 99.
Both countries finished with identical 3-3 records. Next in the standings were Ireland at 2-4 followed by Canada and Bermuda, each 1-5.
