Bermuda pair to give cup their best shot
for this year's World Cup of Golf, scheduled to take place November 11-14 at Lake Nona, Florida.
For Pearman this will be his third foray into the event, which attracts many of the world's best golfers. He competed alongside Keith Smith in 1989 and 1990.
Meanwhile, it marks Swan's second venture and the St. George's Club professional has dedicated himself to a rigorous training regimen in order to make sure he is in the best possible physical and mental state for the event.
"This event is at a different level and you really have to prepare thoroughly,'' said Swan, who boasted of the loss of 20 pounds. "I'm not getting any younger and I figure to give it my best shot.
"I have also had to make sacrifices to go overseas and play at that level of competition prior to the event so that I'll be ready.'' To this end Swan plans to travel to Canada later this month for the Canadian PGA Championship followed by the Atlantic Classic in September as well as the Jamaican Open.
Sprinkled in between are a few local events, including the Johnny Walker Open at Ocean View and the Bermuda Open.
There is also the prospect of some fine tuning at a Mini-Tour event in Florida a week before the World Cup.
"I feel that six tournaments is good, solid preparation,'' said Swan. "You have to get used to the longer courses and faster greens.
"My goal is to see if Bermuda can finish in the top 15 so as to earn an exemption to next year's tournament.'' Pearman likewise said that he hoped to have a few tournaments under his belt before the World Cup and that he was looking forward to the competition.
"I'm hitting the ball a little better than before now, but I need to get out and play more,'' he said. "You get some of the best players in the world there and you have to be at your best.'' Defending champions are the United States, who were represented by Davis Love III and Fred Couples when the lifted the crown last year.
Local travel agent, Meyer Travel, are offering a travel package to Florida especially for persons interested in witnessing Bermuda and the host of internationals involved in the tournament.
It also provides for lodging and gives the opportunity to play some golf as well.
