participate in the 17th Kitty Michael International Invitational Ladies Golf Tournament.

The event, to be held on May 26, 27 and 28 at the Hyatt Regency Cerromar Beach golf course in Dorado, will involve about 13 teams from the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

The tournament was started by Michael in 1979 with three members from the current Bermuda team, Judithanne Astwood, Glenda Todd and Bea Williams, in the first event. Todd has been a member of every Bermuda team since then.

Bermuda is set to stage the tournament next year, at a time and venue to be decided.

The last time Bermuda hosted the event in 1981, the local women won both the gross and net prizes. However, the rules have now been changed and no one team can no longer win both divisions.

Last year, heavy rain on the final day prevented Bermuda from making a bid for the low gross title, for the Balandra Cup. They trailed winners South East Florida by a single stroke going into that last round.

"I figured we could have come through on that last day,'' said captain Astwood. Rain flooded the first five holes of the course, making play impossible.

"You could take a punt and row on number one,'' said Astwood. "I've never seen anything like it.'' The low net prize for the Bermuda Bowl was won by Puerto Rico on 427 with Ocean Reef second on 433. As host country, Puerto Rico should be favourites in one of the divisions.

Nea Willits of Bermuda won the individual net honours over two days with a score of 137 while Florence Peters of Puerto Rico won individual gross honours on retrogression with a two-round total of 162, after a three-way tie with Sharon Pauley of South East Florida and Astwood.
