Bermuda stuns Antigua

afternoon after a 3-0 victory in Antigua took the country to within two rounds of the finals.

A crowd of 2,200 at the Antigua Recreation Ground were left stunned after the Caribbean Cup finalists fell to their heaviest defeat since Bermuda beat them 3-0 here two years ago. The full story is on page 25.

Kenny Thompson, Paul Cann and Kentoine Jennings scored the vital goals for Bermuda who will be heavily favoured to reach the second round of the CONCACAF Zone qualifying tournament on July 4 when the second leg will be played at the National Stadium.

Bermuda advanced to this stage after beating Haiti on the away goals rule after the teams had tied 2-2 over two matches.

Canada are the top seeds in group B of the second round, which will be played under a round-robin format.

Also, in the group will be the winners of Trinidad and Jamaica, and the winners of El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The top two teams from the round robin will advance to a final round robin whereupon the winner will qualify for the finals in the United States and the runner-up will play off against the Oceania Zone winner for a place.

While the national soccer team enjoyed unrivalled success, the cricket team slumped to their fourth successive defeat in England yesterday.

Bermuda scored 203 for nine in 50 overs with in-form Charlie Marshall scoring 50, Clevie Wade 41 and Clay Smith 33.

But Worcestershire's second team crossed the score with five wickets in hand.
