Blazers in search of tonic after drubbing

saga of what is the FA Cup semifinal between Dandy Town and Boulevard, dubbed the "eternal replay''? Are they destined to have to watch through yet another "scintillating'' 120-minute draw? Can either side crack the other's defence for more than a single goal? These questions will hopefully be answered tonight when the two sides meet for the fifth time this season in the third go-round of the FA Cup semifinal (Devonshire Rec., 8 p.m.).

Both enter the match after losses in the league on Sunday.

But while Dandy Town chose to rest several regulars in a meaningless encounter -- for them -- against St. David's, Boulevard were humiliated by a youthful Devonshire Colts outfit in a match they desperately needed to win in order to stand a chance of winning the league title.

And it will be interesting to see whether the Blazers can regroup in time for tonight's clash.

"The guys are taking (Sunday's loss) pretty hard,'' said Boulevard captain Albert Smith. "This (FA Cup) is our last chance to put something in our cabinet.'' Indeed the FA Cup represents the final opportunity for either to garner some silverware, the boys from the west proving downright selfish in stockpiling all of the other cups to be awarded thus far -- Somerset taking three trophies and PHC one.

Smith and Dandy Town coach Mark Trott indicated a need for each team to put away whatever chances are presented, as this has often proven their downfall.

"We were supposed to bury them last week,'' said Smith. "I just feel that we have to correct the mistakes from the Colts game and come back strong. We've done it before.'' Trott was also anxious to have his men put all facets of the game together for one last charge.

Paul Cann, Pernell Douglas and Carlos Smith were all allowed the day off on Sunday while several others, including former skipper Voorhees Astwood took up places on the bench and should be feeling refreshed heading into tonight.

"We have to give a complete performance,'' said Trott, who has a record of four wins, three draws and three defeats since taking over as head coach of Town in January. "We weren't too concerned that it was a negative result (on Sunday)...we played as though we had nothing at stake.

"But we will be prepared when we take the pitch tonight as it is the FA Cup.'' As for the current stalemate Trott put it down to both sides having similar styles and said that he would not expect a lot of goals unless one team played really bad.

"It's like a big chess game and you have a lot of give and take.

"When they are dominating we have to be prepared to defend well and when we get our turn we have to capitalise.'' Meanwhile, Amon Brown of Boulevard looks like missing the match after injuring his hamstring and the status of Town defender Troy Durham is uncertain because of a legal matter.

Preceding tonight's match will be the Bantam KO Cup final pitting Somerset against Devonshire Colts (6.30).

Another junior match rescheduled for this week in the Bantam Division sees North Village playing Dandy Town on Thursday night at 6.30 before the Friendship Trophy semifinal replay between PHC and Devonshire Colts at BAA field.

NEIL ROBINSON -- He and Boulevard Blazers will be looking for more success tonight than they had against Dennis Williams and Devonshire Colts on Sunday.
