Bluebirds, Canaries are double trouble: Field hockey
on the weekend with Bluebirds and Canaries celebrating victories in both the A and B divisions.
In the A Division, Bluebirds got past Police Orioles 3-1 thanks to goals from Ailsa Campbell, Jill Finagan and Karen Turner. Georgie Adlam replied for the Orioles.
In the other A Division clash, the Canaries overwhelmed Swifts 4-0. Rhonda Rawlins fired Canaries into a first half lead and further goals followed after the break from Sarah Northcott, Sandra MacDougall and Rawlins again.
An understrength Bluebirds still proved too good for Police Orioles in the B Division with a single goal after 19 minutes from Andrea Cann settling the issue. Canaries B, meanwhile, crushed Swifts B 7-2 thanks to four goals from Ali Cameron.
Canaries surged into a 3-0 lead in the first half with two goals from Cameron and another from Georgie Barbosa. Two minutes into the second half Cameron made it 4-0 and although Swifts hit back with two quick goals, further strikes from Cameron, Julia Lillinston and Kerry Quidley completed the rout.
