Bluebirds forfeit as tempers flare
(Match abandoned at half-time) Fighting and arguing among themselves became so intense during the interval that coach Fred (Pinks) Lewis was forced to withdraw Social Club from this First Division match at Bernard Park yesterday, leaving referee Ralph Tumbridge with no choice but to abandon the game.
The Bluebirds had the odds stacked against them from the outset when they took on the league champions with just nine players -- and it was a punishing opening half which saw them pinned in their half for the entire 45 minutes.
In absorbing the relentless St. George's attacks, Social Club became frustrated and on the field arguments among themselves were later carried over to the dressing room where the arguing escalated to fighting.
It was then that coach Lewis advised the referee that his team would not be appearing for the second half.
St. George's had taken a 1-0 lead with a goal from Marlon Outerbridge after just three minutes and increased it to 2-0 when Omar Allen netted after 18 minutes.
The East Enders dominated the entire half and could have taken a much greater lead by the interval had their marksmen been more accurate.
Boulevard 0 Ir. Rangers 5 Ireland Rangers kept their play-off hopes alive with this comfortable victory at St. John's Field.
They took a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Henry Santucci after 10 minutes and Clifton Anderson a minute before the break. Jamal Coddington made it 3-0 after 50 minutes while Jonathon Bean stretched it to 4-0 after 78 minutes and Anderson got the fifth eight minutes from time.
Paget 0 St. David's 7 St. David's also kept alive their hopes for a play-off spot, while eliminating Paget from contention with this landslide victory at White Hill Field.
Dejuan Panter opened the scoring for the Islanders after just eight minutes and further misery for Paget came in the 25th and 30th minutes as Kennan Butterfield and Otis Minors added two more for the visitors.
A Kevin Lambe penalty in the 70th minutes made it 4-0 and Lambe was to add another in the 82nd, while Angelo Cannonier also found the target twice.
St. David's can now claim a spot in the play-offs with a win in their final match combined with a loss by Ireland Rangers and a loss, draw or low scoring win by Somerset Eagles.
