BOCA boats battle it out
watched with envy as a record 19 Bermuda Offshore Cruising Association (BOCA) boats set off on the 16-mile Bacardi Rum Regatta.
John Thompson's J-105 Monkeyshines led the 13-strong racing class for most of the course but was finally passed by Penny Simmons in High Energy . On corrected time High Energy placed third. The winner of the class was Tom Wadson's Elizabethan 31 , Swift of Paget skippered by Allan Williams came next followed by Steve Sherwin in Borderlaw .
In a close fought race Martin Purser drove Alexis across the line 21 seconds ahead of Ed Faires Silver Spur helmed by Francis Carter.
The results on corrected time gave first place to Monterey , skippered by Les Crane who finished 13 seconds ahead of David Roblin in Lullaby . Third place went to Alexis with Silver Spur placing a tantalising 49 seconds behind. James Amos of Bacardi presented the trophies to winners at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.
