SQUASH SQU The Bermuda girls team won their second match of the Pepsi Junior Caribbean Squash Championships last night, beating Cayman 2-1 to place second overall in the girls section of the tournament.
First place went to Barbados, led by 17-year-old Andrea Goodridge. Goodridge and her teammates Sarah Moorjani and Carla Jackson dominated the girls section, winning all their matches.
Nicola Swan continued to impress with an emphatic win against Phillipa Byles of Cayman in under 14 play. Her powerful serve and long reach dominated the game which she won 3-0 (9-2, 9-2, 9-0).
Bermuda's Ashley Johansen lost by a similiar margin to Cayman's Emma Paterson in under 16 play and again it was left to girls captain, Carolyn Young, to settle the outcome. She completely overpowered Oona Graham-Taylor of Cayman 3-0 (9-0, 9-0, 9-2) and has suffered just one defeat, against Barbados' Goodridge.
Young and Goodridge are likely to face each other again in Saturday's final of the girls under 19 division.
