Brothers in arms at the den

Daihatsu Second Division leaders Devonshire Cougars made it eight wins from 10 matches when brothers Dwayne Bean and Wali Salaam scored the goals that enabled the home team to open a five-point gap at the Den.

Bean gave Cougars a one-goal lead at the half with a 16th-minute goal. Early in the second half, Bean grabbed a second when he scored from close range in the 59th minute. Salaam closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute when he poked the ball home from six yards after a cross from the right.

BAA 2, Wolves 3 It might have been their 4-0 thrashing on the opening day of the season, or the two points separating them from second-placed BAA, but Wolves travelled to BAA field yesterday determined to take nothing but maximum points.

And within four minutes of referee Chris Jones' opening whistle they were well on their way to accomplishing that after two early goals.

However, BAA, who saved their two goals for late in the match, can blame a missed penalty for failing to earn a share of the points.

Wolves not only closed the two-point gap between the teams but also moved ahead of the Greens on goal difference in what is becoming a two-team battle for the second promotion spot.

Dion Wainwright got Wolves off on the right foot with a goal as early as the third minute, before top scorer Marlon Lindsay got the first of his two goals to double the lead a minute later.

Late in the first half, Duncan Ashworth wasted a good chance when he drove a shot well over the bar from a good position. Lindsay notched his 14th goal of the season in the 62nd minute to make it 3-0.

Paul Franco had a penalty midway through the second half saved by goalkeeper Hewvonnie Brown as BAA started to come back. Their goals came in the 89th and 90th minutes through Norman Correia and Robert Pacheco but it proved too late.

Port Royal 1, Social Club 2 Social Club won for only the third time this season with a goal in each half at White Hill field.

Rembert Hill opened the scoring when he netted from a corner and Troy Saunders made it 2-0 midway through the second half, just moments after coming on as a sub.

Michael Holdipp pulled one back for Port Royal after catching the goalkeeper off his line following a clearance.

Prospect 2, Hamilton Parish 3 Antwon Darrell took his goal tally to six goals in his last four matches when he scored once and college student Corey Hill twice as revived Parish won their third match on the trot at Police field.

The win moves Parish from sixth to fourth in the standings, ahead of both Prospect and Somerset Eagles on eight points. Clifford Roberts and Allan Wilkinson scored the Prospect goals.
