Caisey shows value of experience
Mall Engravers Trophy Day.
Shannon Caisey brought his semi-retired scoot out in the mini-bikes and proceeded to put the younger field to the sword -- winning all but one of the heats.
With Caisey taking the top spot, championship leader Paulo Silva had to settle for second and last year's champion Arron Persad took third.
Stock/Modified saw another big turnout with 12 bikes vying for the big trophy.
Schoolboy Danny Simons was consistent and fast and saw off the competition over the three heats. Dennis Wilson, leading the championship, was the runner-up while Glen Mello had to settle for third after a first heat mishap.
Formula only had a field of three, which meant that everyone was guaranteed a trophy.
The surprise was Vince Belboda on the smallest capacity machine running out the winner.
Ed Daniels, whose Aprilia machine clearly had the pace, won heat one and three but a close encounter with the tarmac in heat two cost him dear.
Darren Dowling fought mechanical difficulties all day and had to settle for third.
In the Scooter class everything went to form with reigning champion and points leader Mark Lightbourne draping the trophy in Team Benelli colours.
Much-improved reliability earned newcomer Davon Bailey the runner-up spot and Ricky Perriers did enough to take third.
The days racing had an early start in order to fit in a new class -- Grand Prix `B'.
Alex Dowling had to settle for second behind newcomer and surprise package Jason Dennis.
Scott Mello, on Christmas break from university, took the opportunity to get an adrenaline fix and came home third.
Grand Prix `A' saw events from the last race day continue with Shannon Caisey and Ray Masters being the boys to beat.
Although David Jones shadowed these two he was never able to threaten their dominance.
In heat one Masters paid the price for pushing on cold tyres and this along with a missed gear change while leading in heat two handed the big prize to his nemesis, Caisey. As in all three heats Jones took third overall.
The next race day is scheduled for January 28.
Shannon Caisey: got the better of young field.
