Canadian crabber to spend winter
The Granchio docked at St. Georges in the middle of last month after being badly mauled by hurricane weather. It is currently lying at Penno's Wharf.
Chief Engineer Darrell Ayre, the only crewman still on board, said it would be February before the boat put to sea again.
He added that it was intended that the Halifax-registered 50 tonner return to Canada, but the owners decided to winter the boat in the warmer climate of Bermuda.
Most of the crew went back to Canada in November, leaving a skeleton crew of four. They left earlier this month leaving Mr. Ayre to run the vessel on a care-and-maintenance basis.
