Cougars build on lead

Donald Norford floored Prospect yesterday with a well-drilled 60th-minute strike at Police field that keeps Cougars riding high in the Daihatsu Second Division.

The midfielder slotted the ball into the left-hand corner of Kuhn Evans' net after a deft pass by Cleveland Campbell.

It was a goal that Cougars deserved, although they were far from on top form, which was no doubt hindered by a swirling cross-wind throughout.

In the 63rd minute, Prospect narrowly missed out after a 20-yard shot by Robin Hollinsid.

Leon Place failed to gather cleanly and Peter Philpott nearly rolled the ball over the line on the rebound.

But for the most part it was Cougars on the offensive.

After Norford put Cougars ahead, Dwayne Bean should have wrapped matters up minutes later.

The striker, however, failed to strike the ball cleanly as he charged towards Evans' goal.

Bean was again at the thick of things in the 73rd minute.

Cougars' players and fans screamed for a penalty when the forward went sprawling in the box.

Referee John Bento, however, had no hesitation in letting the game continue.

In the closing minutes, Cougars piled on the pressure.

Substitute Wali Salaam could have put the game beyond doubt in the 82nd minute.

He found himself in space outside the box, but hit the ball straight at Evans.

Campbell also spurned a good chance three minutes later after Norford centred from the right.

The striker was unmarked as he headed the ball, but sent it soaring over the bar.

Paget 3, BAA 5 After trailing 4-0 at the interval Paget stormed back with three consecutive goals in the second half but just came short of levelling the score and a share of the points at Southampton Oval.

BAA had taken an emphatic lead at the interval on goals by Cleveland Crichlow (two), Mario Arrudo and Gary Flood.

Paget though came back strong and struck three times through Dwayne Saunders, Ivan Trott and Patrick Lee.

Joag Madeiros put it out of reach for BAA.

Social Club 3, Ham. Parish 3 Hamilton Parish were denied a rare win as Social Club fought back from 3-1 down at half-time to earn a share of the points in a match played in a vicious cross-wind at PHC Stadium.

Two goals by Antwon Darrell had put Parish in a commanding position after 45 minutes. He struck after Social Club's Denton Richardson had tied Johnny Nusum's early goal.

It was a different story in the second half, however, as Social Club quickly got back on level terms.

First, Randy Spence pulled one back and then Richardson grabbed the equaliser with his second goal of the game.

Port Royal 4, Som. Eagles 0 Sheridan Gibbs scored a hat-trick to lead Port Royal to this surprisingly-easy victory over unpredictable Somerset Eagles at White Hill field.

Port Royal took the upper hand after a scoreless first half and demoralised their opponents with Gibbs' three-goal performance and a fourth from Mike Bean.
