Cougars let it slip
title and promotion when they were held to a 1-1 draw by St. George's at Wellington Oval yesterday.
That result set up a thrilling season finale as second placed Ireland Rangers clawed their way to within two points of the leaders with one match left to play.
And in that final match, Rangers will play host to Cougars to decide who goes up.
Cougars, who had entered the day with a four point lead, earned their point when substitute Vashun Martin found the net five minutes from the end. The home side had taken a surprise lead after 75 minutes through Yusef Pitt.
Ireland Rangers also struggled but managed to eke out a 1-0 victory over Hamilton Parish. They also left it late, the goal coming from Duane DeRosa's penalty after 85 minutes.
The spot kick was awarded by referee Irven Simmons when defender Larry Allen pulled down substitute Clifton Anderson. While Rangers missed several scoring chances, Parish had their misses too, including a penalty by goalkeeper Nigel Burgess.
Referee Simmons sent off Ray Knights of Rangers for dissent after 80 minutes.
In the fight for third place, Social Club romped over Prospect 5-0 with Dennis Russell scoring twice and other goals coming from Leo Richardson and Michael Parsons.
At White Hill, last placed Paget surprised Eagles with a 2-2 draw, ruining Eagles' hopes of challenging for a third place finish. Darnell Pinkey and Shawn Dill netted for Eagles.
Dandy Stars tasted rare success in Women's League action with a 3-1 victory over Little Venice Rookies at St. John's field yesterday. Stacy Smith scored twice and Nakia Webb the other while Gail Maitland responded for the Rookies.
