RUGBY RUG Saturday's 14-0 defeat by Police did not reflect the performance of Mariners who should have scored at least three tries in Amstel League Second XV action at National Sports Club.

However, Police took their chances well and captain Steve Parkinson was their hero with two tries, one from a pushover at a scrum and the other a storming 50-yard run following an interception after poor Mariners handling.

Nick Elwig was Renegades' star and put the game beyond doubt with his second try after Teachers had clawed their way back from a 10-0 deficit to win 18-7.

Elwig's first try was a combination of his sheer determination and poor tackling by Teachers.

Teachers' forwards failed to dominate as expected and only sporadically controlled the ball in the mauls, which resulted in one try from Tommy Sinclair after good driving by Dan Bucher.

A BRFU ruling has yet to be made on the award of three points following the Police's 28-11 win over Teachers on February 6. It is alleged that Police used several ineligible players in that game.

MOTOCROSS SCR Devin Moss made a celebrated return to motocross racing following a brief absence, recording a hat-trick of wins on Sunday in the ongoing Pepsi National Championships.

Racing in the 125C Class Moss was unrelenting as he powered his way past the competition to the winners circle.

Finishing second in all three motos was Kyle Constable, while Evan Lambert had a trio of third place finishes.

There was a change in the make-up of the 125 B standings as Justin Belboda and Gary Simons flip-flopped positions with the former taking over the number two spot behind Aaron Pace on the heels of two seconds.

Pace won all three races to consolidate his overall lead.

Among the 80cc category Chris Maxwell notched two exciting wins, holding off the challenges by Kemo Simons and Michael Burgess.

Simons, though, captured the first moto to maintain a shot at the overall title with just two races remaining.

Remaining races saw Donnie Moss and Edison Jones go virtually unchallenged in taking the 250C and 250B brackets.

SOFTBALL SOF AICO moved into sole possesion of first place in Division `B' of the Commercial Softball League as they turned back the challenge of previous co-leaders PALMS 15-13.

While Palm got some heavy hitting from Clarkie Trott, who went a perfect four-for-four with five RBI, as well as Andrew Peniston, AICO turned in a fine team effort enabling them to prevail in the end.

Austin John contributed four RBI on just one hit -- he had two sacrifice flies -- and Gilbert Beek slammed a home run off losing pitcher Roberta Clarke to give Sanford Seepersad and AICO the victory.

St. David's anhilated Sousa'a Lawncare and Design 21-4 on the heels of three hit performances by both Allen Richardson and Hedley Furbert.

Richardson had a homer, two doubles and four RBI, while Furbert weighed in with a triple and a double that produced three runs.

The Islanders' pitcher Michael Glasford also managed to keep the opposing bats in check to pick up an easy win.

The remaining game saw Tropical Breezers ease past Bobcats 16-8. DART DRT Brenda Hutton of BAA proved to be the number one player in the Ladies Darts League when she brushed aside challenges from her daughters in the first two rounds on her way to the championship at her home club.

Hutton beat one daughter, Karen, 2-0 and then stopped another, Elizabeth, 2-1 in her first two matches. She then gained momentum with a close 2-1 win over Terry Cartwright and beat Jean Clark 2-1 in the final.

Clark had received a bye in the first round before going on to defeat Greta Paynter 2-0 and Maureen Aubrey 2-1 to get into the final.

Lynn Somner of RAA scored a perfect 180 in her game against Carla Hill to help her reach the semi finals where she lost 2-0 to Clark.
