Cricket lovers go south for tests
Estimates of between 500 and 1,000 residents are flying out to watch the test series between the West Indies and Pakistan.
The majority will be at both the second test in Barbados and the third test in Antigua.
Meyer Agencies are acting on behalf of three sold-out chartered planes carrying more than 300 of the travellers.
Travel manager Mr. Carl Paiva said others had also booked to travel individually to the West Indies on American Airlines.
He said his agents had been working flat out over the last few weeks taking bookings.
Meyer acted quickly and bought thousands of dollars worth of tickets for both tests expecting to have some left over.
Mr. Paiva said: "We sold out quickly. It is lucky really because the games are now all ticket affairs so anyone getting over there without a ticket would not get in.
"A hell of a lot of people have booked with us. The cricket frenzy is incredible. Bermudians are definitely cricket players and observers.
"It was big last year but not like this. It tends to repeat every year. We even sent a lot of people to Australia.'' Mr. Paiva said his representative in Barbados had been meeting Bermudians as they arrived. He said: "They are all very enthusiastic and looking forward to the cricket.'' Donald Smith Agency reported around 30 people travelling to the matches but stressed that they had not been involved with the charter flights.
