Cuts, Police in relegation clash
this weekend as the 1996 cricket season winds down.
All that is left to be determined is the second relegation spot in the Open League where Cleveland, Willow Cuts and Police are battling for survival.
Cleveland have finished their campaign and will now await the outcome of matches involving Willow Cuts and Police, who play each other tomorrow at Police Field.
The two teams are level on 30 points with two matches remaining. Both teams will also play Bailey's Bay, with Police travelling to Sea Breeze Oval today.
Today's other Premier Division match sees champions Western Stars hosting St.George's at St. John's Field.
Southampton Rangers, who have wrapped up promotion from the First Division in both the Open and Overs, take on Devonshire Rec. today at Southampton Oval.
Tomorrow, two more matches are scheduled with the Police-Cuts game being the only Premier Division contest and Social Club meeting Devonshire Rec. at Sea Breeze Oval in a First Division Overs clash. All matches begin at 10 a.m.
Next weekend will see the final matches of the season. On Saturday, Willow Cuts take on Bailey's Bay at Sea Breeze while in the First Division Flatts will play Southampton Rangers (Overs) and Social Club will meet PHC (Open) at Nationals.
The lone match next Sunday will be Flatts-Devonshire Rec in the Open League.
West Indian Association and Sandys Sports Club bring the curtain down on the Commercial Cricket League season when they meet in the Knockout final at Wellington Oval tomorrow (12.30).
Three years ago -- the only previous time the St.George's Cricket Club ground has been used for the league's showpiece match -- Sandys ended Forties' 100 percent record in finals by beating them by three wickets in a low-scoring match.
Forties gained revenge by beating the West Enders at White Hill in last season's final.
WIA ended Forties' hopes this season by beating them at Police Field in the semi-finals and will start slight favourites tomorrow as Sandys will be without a number of key players, including leading batsman Terry Ward who is playing in a cricket tournament in the United States.
