Darrell hints at changes
Darrell to make one change to his starting line-up against Antigua and there could be one or two others.
Darrell hinted there could be additional changes for Sunday's World Cup qualifier, saying it all depends on what combination he finally decides to go with.
"My initial plan is to have Meshach Wade, who has played in midfield, replace Grant. But if I take Wade from midfield I have to decide what to do there,'' said Darrell.
One idea he has in mind is to have Voorhees Astwood return to midfield in place of Wade and allow Albert Caisey to regain his position at left-back.
Caisey looked like making that position his own, but his sending-off against Norway in February saw him lose the spot to Astwood on the Jamaica tour.
Astwood has played there in the last four matches.
"While the Wade-for-Grant move is a strong consideration at this time, there are so many other options left open if I want to manoeuvre. We could move Astwood to midfield, bring in Caisey at left-back or bring back Albert Smith into the middle, who knows?'' said the manager.
Whatever combination Darrell eventually comes up with, he feels the team will still be a formidable one, although he would like to have Neil Paynter in the squad.
Paynter, who came on as a substitute for Sammy Swan after 72 minutes in Haiti, is unavailable because of exams at Old Dominion University.
"Overall the squad is a very good one but the person we will probably miss most is Neil Paynter because of his great versaility, he's one of the few players who can play anywhere in defence or in the middle of the field,'' said Darrell.
While admitting that Neil Robinson is another good utility player, Darrell said that he was replaced in the squad by Wayne Campbell because the latter was needed as a back-up for centre-half Leroy Stevens.
Going into the last few practice sessions before departing for Antigua, Darrell said that tomorrow's work-out was extremely useful because everybody was out to prove they were in good condition.
It appears that Dennis Brown is finally over his injury, having shown no signs of discomfort. Brown, too, might be pushing for a place in the defence having come on for the injured Shawn Smith in Haiti and using his experience to keep the defence together.
"There could be some problems when we return and prepare for the second leg here, but the concerns will be restricted to finding places in the squad for so many who are available,'' explained Darrell.
"We have lots of firepower in players like David Bascome, Corey Hill, Damon Wade and a few more who will be challenging for places. If there is a situation where we need to win or score a few goals then it will mean finding a right combination and it will be interesting.'' GETTING MARRIED -- Kevin Grant.
