Different course, same winners. That was the case on Saturday as the Island's senior cross country series continued with the second event of the season at
Kavin Smith and Jennifer Fisher, who won easily over the Warwick dunes a week earlier, again dictated affairs in a field which brought out more than 60 runners.
On a slightly shorter (approximately five miles) and easier course than used a week previously, Smith led almost from start to finish, clocking 26 minutes and 50 seconds compared to second-placed Tracy Wright's time of 28.31.
Errol Cormack placed third in 28.50 followed by Brett Forgesson (28.56) and Rory Gorman (29.26). First Master was Harry Patchett who placed seventh overall in 30.18.
Fisher won her event over about three miles in 22.57, less than half a minute in front of Jane Christie (23.26), who was the first female Master.
Elaine Parker placed third in 25.06, Maria Payne fourth in 25.28 and Cynthia Thomas fifth in 25.37.
In Saturday's junior cross country series over slightly shorter courses, Calvert Lee won the secondary schools boys race (21 miles) in 14.52 and Patrina Swan was first secondary girl (13 miles) in 14.10. Mylinda Johnson won the primary girls race, finishing in 14.04 and Ryan Swan the primary boys in 13.11.
JUNIOR SOCCER SOC N.Village 1 Dev.Colts 1 Substitute Shervin Jennings proved North Village's saviour in this junior Premier Division match on Sunday when he came on to snatch a vital 83rd minute equaliser and preserve a draw for the home side at Bernard Park.
Jennings squeezed the ball home despite the attendance of two Devonshire Colts defenders just at it appeared the visitors had done enough to win.
Colts grabbed the lead five minutes from the end of the first half through Jahmel Jones. However, they made the mistake of falling into a defensive mode as they tried to preserve their advantage, allowing Village to attack at will and eventually paid the price.
