A couple plays three matches each night, one game each and a mixed game, each to 21 points off handicap. Plenty of energy is required to stay the course.

The first night saw Denise Kyme and son Nick and Susan Fairhurst and Greg Washington win all matches in their groups. Winners and runners-up in each group go through while there is a consolation play for third and fourth place teams.

Some 32 couples are competing in the tournament with a good entry from the juniors. The youngest player is seven-year-old James Stout.

The finals are on Saturday.
