Eddie Roque ended the harness racing season in style with four wins, two of them in the Champion of Champions final at Vesey Street over the weekend.
Roque drove Tuxedo's Bowtie to a double win in times of 1:06.2 and 1:05.2.
It was a good pay day for Roque, whose other entry, Shamrock's Formal Attire driven by Mark Richardson, finished second in the final with times of 1:07.4 and 1:07. Michael DeCosta's Grand Shady placed third.
Despite Roque's quadruple success, Michael Roberts was the weekend's most successful driver with five wins, including two each with Ponderdawn and Ponderbabe.
The veteran mare Abby Dabby Doo with driver/owner William Madeiros had a successful season finale with three wins -- one more than she had managed previously all season.
And on Saturday, Catch A Fire enjoyed a victorious swansong by winning his final race before retirement with owner/driver Tom Matthews.
TABLE TENNIS PP Dave Waltham won the Bermuda Open Double Elimination Tournament at CedarBridge Academy on Saturday, gaining revenge over Myron Piper who beat him in last year's final.
Piper also defeated Waltham 21-19, 21-18 in the winners bracket on the weekend before Waltham bounced back to beat Mike Lindo in the losers bracket 21-12, 21-14 to clinch his spot in the final and earn another possible two shots at Piper.
In the first match, Waltham beat Piper 21-7, 21-12, 13-21, 21-13 before clinching the title with another win, this time 22-20, 21-12, 21-17. Recent back surgery appeared to take its toll on Piper who has not fully recovered from the operation.
