Extros, St. George's in promotion push
one with Somerset Extros and St. George's All-Stars announcing their candidacy with vital wins over the weekend.
Extros notched a fine 4-1 win against cellar dwellers Coca-Cola while St.
George's squeaked by North Village Rams 1-0.
Donnie Simmons, George Brangman, Gladstone Robinson and Orlando Simmons all tallied for Extros, who moved into second place in the standings while Glen Fubler was the lone Coke marksman.
Meanwhile an Earl Simmons strike was enough to sink Rams and send them tumbling out of the top two into fourth place behind Extros and St. George's.
Group leaders Exiles found an easy proposition in the form of Prison Officers whom they promptly disposed of by a 5-1 margin with Antoine Cannonier moving to the top of the goalscoring chart with four goals, boosting his season tally to 14. Marvin Hassan assisted with one and Charlie Fox got a consolation effort for the Officers.
BAA Wanderers bounced back from last week's loss to Robin Hood as they handily defeated Spinning Wheel 6-2, reaffirming their position as the top team in Group A.
Leading the way for Wanderers was Tony Lambert with a hat-trick while Alistair Smith, Eric James and James Gallagher all netted one goal apiece.
Wheel were aided by an own goal with their second coming off the boot of Johnny Nusum.
Following up on the previous week's success Robin Hood recorded a solid 4-2 triumph over hapless Island Rangers.
Leading 3-0 at the break Hood relaxed, allowing Rangers to close to within a goal as Keith Bremar struck twice, but finally put their opponents away for good with a goal late in the second half.
For Hood, Des Minors and Ray Morrison both scored twice.
The day's only other Commercial match had KPMG Peat Marwick easy 4-1 victors against Fire services.
John Ingham (two), Stuart Drake and Eversley Lewis all got in the goal column for the winners while Maxwell Burgess replied for Fire Services.
A slip by second place PHC allowed Dandy Town to surge further ahead in the chase for league honours in the Alliance Division Group A.
While the Zebras were losing 2-1 to Boulevard on goals by Neil Robinson and Maurice Smith -- Ottis Steede scored for PHC -- Town enjoyed a day off when Devonshire Cougars failed to show for their match, handing them an easy two points.
The results mean that Town now hold a three point lead with just two matches remaining.
St. George's moved level with PHC on 12 points as they demolished Somerset 4-2 in their match.
Sinclair M. Smith, Del Tyrell, Clay Smith and Davon Foggo were on target for St. George's while Gary Benjamin and Curtis Grant scored Somerset's goals.
BAA registered their second win of the season when they unloaded on a seven man Prospect outfit for 11 goals without reply.
Gary Flood led the way with three followed by Phillip Bolton and Alan Dill, each with two, and Duncan Ashworth, Shannon Bell, Keith Madeiros and Robert Pacheco one apiece.
Meanwhile Southampton handed St. David's another loss 4-1 as Mitchell Raynor (two), Omari Hart and Anthony Brown scored to offset a tally by the Islanders' Eugene Crockwell.
